Mother’s Death Set the Stage for Woman's Assault on Cancer

Timothy Rebbeck, PhD, a professor of Epidemiology, is quoted in a Columbus (OH) Dispatch article detailing the story of a woman who opted for preventive surgeries to remove her breasts and ovaries after learning she carried the genetic mutation that greatly increases her risk of developing cancer. Rebbeck says that based on the research available, about 20 percent of American women who test positive for this genetic mutation choose to remove their breasts.
