Gene Therapy That Saves Lives

A Wall Street Journal article marking the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy, which was founded by Penn graduate Edward Netter and his wife, Barbara, to promote gene therapy research to treat cancer, mentions research led by Carl June, MD, director of Translational Research for the Abramson Cancer Center and professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Early results of that trial, reported last summer, showed that a treatment using modified versions of chronic lymphocytic leukemia patients' own T cells eradicated their tumors.
