Focus On Head & Neck Cancers Conference
April 13, 2007
Hilton Hotel, 4200 City Avenue
Conference Chair: Jason Newman, MD, FACS
On April, 13, for the first time, the Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania planned a day-long conference entitled "Focus on Head and Neck Cancers." The conference was designed to address the personal and medical issues facing people with head and neck cancers and their caregivers.
Through a series of presentations, panels, workshops and the opportuniy to network and gain support from other survivors, the conference sought to educate patients and their families about the medical and psychosocial issues they face. This educational conference highlighted the latest advances in diagnosis, treatment, symptom management and psychosocial issues to provide patient-focused information.
Specifically, the use of Erbitux ® (Cetuximab), in combination with radiation therapy, as indicated for the treatment of a certain type of locally or regionally advanced head and neck cancer, and also for use alone to treat certain types of head and neck cancer when the tumor has returned in the same location or spread to other parts of the body and the patient has failed platinum-based chemotherapy.
