Translational Centers of Excellence (TCE) Program

The ACC is seeking applications for TCEs from interdisciplinary groups of scientists and clinicians who propose innovative, translational team approaches to the prevention and/or treatment of specific forms of cancer. To be considered translational, the proposed TCEs must consist of highly integrated and interdisciplinary programs with the ability to move novel scientific discoveries into the clinic, and with the potential for an important impact on patient care and outcomes.

The first stage of the application process requires submission of a detailed Letter of Intent (LOI). LOI instructions can be downloaded from the link below.

General Guidelines

TCEs must focus on a particular type of cancer. In addition, the following features of TCE applications are strongly encouraged.

  • Integrated team of research scientists and clinicians/clinical investigators
  • Breadth of scientific disciplines, including basic, clinical and population sciences
  • Cross-departmental and/or cross-school collaborations
  • Innovative and new directions, rather than existing approaches
  • Contribution by participating Departments for cost-sharing

One Translation Centers of Excellence grant for up to $3,000,000 will be awarded in 2012.
The award period for the Translational Centers of Excellence grant is for up to three years, July 1st, 2012 to June 30, 2015 (expected).

Eligibility

  • All Penn Faculty are eligible to apply. At least one of the PIs must be an ACC member.
  • Up to two Penn Principle Investigators (PIs) are allowed, each with a proven track record leading interdisciplinary and translational research.

Ineligibility

  • Non-faculty (e.g., residents, fellows) are not eligible.
