ASTRO Issues Statement on Proton Beam Therapy for Prostate Cancer

The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) has issued a statement voicing support for clinical trials and collection of data from patient registries in order to inform best practices on the use of proton therapy for prostate cancer, as compared to other radiation therapy modalities such as IMRT and brachytherapy. The Roberts Proton Therapy Center is mentioned in Oncology Times coverage of the statement, for its role co-leading a five-year randomized trial will eventually accrue 400 men to receive either proton beam therapy or intensity-modulated radiation therapy.
