Penn's Ovarian Cancer Vaccine Brings New Hope

A CBS3 story highlights ovarian cancer vaccine trials being led by George Coukos, MD, PhD, director of the Penn Ovarian Cancer Research Center and associate chief of the division of Gynecologic Oncology. The trials involve a personalized vaccine for women with recurrences of ovarian cancer, a series of treatments which Coukos says work to "re-educate the immune system to recognize the tumor." One of Coukos's patients, who has been involved in two vaccine trials at Penn -- which have put her cancer into remission and allowed her to travel and experience the joy of spending time with her young grandchildren -- is also featured in the piece.
