Abramson Cancer Center Offers Acupuncture

To support the physical and psychosocial wellbeing for cancer patients during and beyond treatments, the Abramson Cancer Center will offer an integrative acupuncture service.

What: The acupuncture service is part of the Integrative Medicine and Wellness Program at the Abramson Cancer Center to promote effective symptom control and healthy living for individuals affected by cancer.

Fee: As most insurance companies in Pennsylvania currently do not cover acupuncture, the service is fee-based with the first treatment being $120.00 and return visits for $60.00 each.

Provided by: Dr. Jun Mao a nationally recognized integrative cancer symptom specialist who is board certified in family medicine and acupuncture.

Where: 4th floor of the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine.

Jun J. Mao , MD, MSCE is an attending physician on Penn’s Symptom and Palliative Care service and has particular expertise in managing common cancer or treatment-related symptoms such as nausea, pain, neuropathy, fatigue, insomnia and psychological distress using acupuncture in the context of conventional care. Additionally, he has an active research program that evaluates the effects, mechanisms and integration of acupuncture in cancer care that is supported by the National Institutes of Health and American Cancer Society.
