In its 18th year, the Jay Sigel Golf Invitational has raised more than
$1.7 million in support of prostate-cancer research at Penns Abramson
Family Cancer Research Institute. The 2010 Invitational is scheduled for
July 26 at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square. Founded by
professional golfer Jay Sigel of Berwyn, the event first took place in
1992.
Aronimink wanted to have a golf tournament in my honor for
my years of amateur competition at that time, said Jay Sigel. I
combined that with the fact that my dad had died of cancer, and the
tournament was created to benefit cancer research. The event started
slowly but it has built momentum. Originally the event benefited cancer
research in general, but after realizing that men werent overly aware
of prostate cancer, I decided to focus on that. Read More
