Volunteering

Volunteers bring a special warmth and understanding wherever they are. That is why the Abramson Cancer Center welcomes their support. You can help others by donating your time and talents throughout the Cancer Center. Our volunteers are of various backgrounds and assist in patient care areas, administrative activities and special events. Applicants must be age 18 and above to apply for volunteer service. We have opportunities to fit your personal skills, interests and schedule.

There are many types of volunteering opportunities that can be tailored to your interests including:

• Outpatient Ambassador Program
  Volunteers greet patients and their families and assist them throughout their visit.
• Person-to-Person Program
  Cancer survivors and their caregivers provide support and understanding to patients and their caregivers with a similar diagnosis.
• Special Events and Community Outreach
  Volunteers coordinate registration, prepare mailings and packets of information for participants and assist at events.
• Administrative Activities
  Volunteers assist with mailings, filing and other clerical duties.
• Sewing, Knitting and Quilting
  At-home sewers and knitters are needed to make chemotherapy caps and lap quilts for patients.
• Reiki
  Certified practitioners are sought to offer Reiki sessions to patients as an adjunct to conventional care. Contact Kimberly Fleisher  for more information or questions.

Location

The Volunteer Services Office is located on the Ground Floor, Ravdin Building at the Hospital of the University of Pennslyvania (HUP). HUP is located on 34th and Spruce Streets.
