Overview of Lancaster General Hospital

Lancaster General Health is a regional, not-for-profit healthcare system with a reputation for excellence. The winner of numerous national and regional awards, Lancaster General Health is committed to advancing the health and well-being of the communities we serve.

Our health system includes Lancaster General Hospital, a 640-bed tertiary care facility capable of providing highly technical and specialized care to the most severely injured and most seriously ill patients.

LG Health also offers a cardiac surgery program, Lancaster County's only Level II trauma center, mental health, the county's only Level III neonatal intensive care unit, pulmonary, orthopedics, urological services, cancer services, vascular surgery, bariatric surgery and neurosurgery. Lancaster General Hospital also provides a comprehensive spectrum of patient care services that include prevention education, early detection, diagnostics, treatment, rehabilitation and clinical research.

The Lancaster General Health Suburban Outpatient Pavilion is a state-of-the-art ambulatory facility providing access to diagnostic testing, laboratory work, ambulatory surgery and a full range of outpatient services including radiation therapy and chemotherapy in one location. In addition, LG Health offers ambulatory sites with a range of services located throughout the region.

One of the busiest maternity hospitals in south central Pennsylvania, the 74-bed Women & Babies Hospital provides services designated specifically for women including diagnostic and surgical services.

Lancaster General Hospital's Cancer Program

Accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, the Lancaster General Health Cancer Center offers quality inpatient and outpatient oncology services.

Outpatient services include diagnostic and treatment modalities, including the dedicated Suzanne H. Arnold Center for Breast Health, which was named a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology. Genetic testing, nurse navigators and advanced diagnostic tools such as a breast ultrasound and breast MRI all ensure that breast cancer patients receive the comprehensive range of services they need from diagnosis through treatment.

The multidisciplinary treatment team includes surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, oncology nurses, therapists, case managers, nurse navigators, chaplains, pathologists, pharmacists, dietitians and rehabilitation specialists. Program components include a 27-bed dedicated inpatient oncology unit located at Lancaster General Hospital and a dedicated infusion center at the Suburban Outpatient Pavilion.

Radiation Oncology Services include external radiation therapy, prostate brachytherapy, High Dose Remote (HDR) after loading, radio-labeled antibody therapy, Mammosite® and TomoTherapy®. Lancaster General Health Cancer Center is home to the only Gamma Knife in Lancaster County and also offers the daVinci surgical system to treat prostate and gynecological cancers and Mohs surgery, which is an advanced technique for skin cancer. Lancaster General Health has been a member of the Penn Cancer Network since 1994.

The Lancaster General Health Cancer Center offers a variety of programs specifically designed to meet the educational and emotional needs of cancer patients and their families through the Lancaster General Health Wellness Center. These programs provide support groups such as prostate cancer, ovarian cancer and breast cancer community groups. Lancaster General Health is also a recipient of a Komen Foundation grant to help underserved women with breast cancer and the Lance Armstrong LIVESTRONG Foundation to provide scholarship services to cancer patients.
