BRIAN L. STROM, M.D., M.P.H. is George S. Pepper Professor of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Founding Chair and Professor of Biostatistics & Epidemiology, Professor of Medicine, Professor of Pharmacology, Founding Director of the Center for Clinical Epidemiology & Biostatistics, Founding Director of the Graduate Group in Epidemiology & Biostatistics, Vice Dean for Institutional Affairs, School of Medicine, and Senior Advisor to the Provost for Global Health Initiatives, at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Strom's primary research interest is pharmacoepidemiology and is author and editor of the field's major textbook. His research has not been limited to pharmacoepidemiology, however, as his interests span clinical epidemiology. Many of Dr. Strom's studies have involved cancer clinical epidemiology; he has been particularly interested in the risks of cancer resulting from drugs. Dr. Strom has written more than 480 papers and has been PI of more than 200 grants, including 6 training grants for which he is PI providing clinical epidemiologic training. One of these is the NCI-funded Cancer Clinical Epidemiology Training Program. Finally, Dr. Strom has won several teaching awards and is a member of multiple honorific societies, including the American Epidemiology Society, the American Society of Clinical Investigation, the American Association of Physicians, and the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences.
