Research Expertise

Research Expertise (in a few sentences): My lab has focused on understanding the mechanism and regulation of V(D)J recombination and has been continuously funded by NIH since 1993. Since our discovery of RAG mutants that permit efficient alternative NHEJ (Nature, 2007), my lab has been generating and characterizing mice bearing knockin RAG mutants. We have found that RAG2 mutants which permit alternative NHEJ rapidly develop T lymphomas, with 100% penetrance, which contain chromosome translocations involving antigen receptor loci, interstitial deletions, and gene amplification, all features found in human T- acute lymphoblastic lymphoma (Deriano et al, Nature 2011). We continue to generate novel mouse models of lymphoma and are analyzing the genomic rearrangements of the lymphomas in an effort to understand mechanism and to discover oncogenic pathways.
