For those diagnosed with gastrointestinal (GI) cancer, our (GICEC) offers a thorough evaluation during a single visit.
Medical and radiation oncologists work closely together to provide the best treatment options available. Our patient support specialist helps coordinate care and guides the patient through the next steps.
At the end of the visit, a team member meets and talk with each patient and treatment options are presented.
Treatment options that include chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery are emphasized.
This approach has been successful in decreasing the incidence of local recurrence in most GI tumors and increasing the cure rate for tumors of the colon, rectum and pancreas.
Other specialists from surgery, gastroenterology, radiology, pathology and nutrition will be consulted, as needed.
Each patient’s treatment plan is reviewed by the team at a Case Conference. This ensures that patients receive the most advanced treatments available and that care is coordinated among your team.

Having someone to rely on for support during treatments was very important to Perry and since he retired from his family business, he has dedicated time to volunteering at the Abramson Cancer Center. A long time cancer survivor, Perry enjoys walking around the until talking with cancer patients, and seeing people's faces change as they hear his survival story. They know he was once in their place.
