Interventional Radiology

Interventional Radiology is a medical specialty that uses image-guided, minimally invasive diagnostic and treatment techniques that are often an alternative to surgery. Interventional radiologists are highly trained in imaging, radiation safety, the performance of medical procedures, and patient management. Penn's Interventional Radiology Division offers the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of diseases using minimally invasive techniques. Many conditions that previously required traditional open surgery can now be treated with small catheters or other devices guided by radiologic imaging, allowing for a faster recovery, and a less costly procedure.

Radiation Oncology

If radiation treatment is recommended, you'll receive a consultation with a Penn radiation oncologist who is a leader in the management of urologic cancers. They're recognized for techniques that target radiation precisely to the tumor site while sparing normal tissue. Penn radiation oncologists are experts in Intensity-modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Image Guided Radiation therapy (IGRT) and are pioneering the use of proton therapy.

Radiology

Radiologists are experts in diagnosing disease through the use of x-rays and other imaging techniques such as scans and ultrasound. Penn urologic radiologists perform a wide variety of diagnostic and interventional procedures for patients with known or suspected urologic cancers. Penn is the only academic medical center in our region with the clinical expertise and depth of knowledge to support a separate Genitourinary (GU) Radiology Division.
