2012 Penn Medicine Advances presents Preventing and Curing Cancer: the Abramson Cancer Center's New Tools of the Trade

Over 200 guests came together to learn more about the latest innovative approaches to fighting cancer - from proton therapy to vaccines - that are bringing new hope to millions - as Penn Medicine Advances presented Preventing and Curing Cancer: the Abramson Cancer Center's New Tools of the Trade on Monday, April 30, 2012 at the Merion Cricket Club in Haverford, PA.

The evening included a lively panel discussion moderated by Drs. Chi Dang and Lynn Schuchter, featuring panelists Drs. Steven Brem, Stephen M. Hahn, John C. Kucharczuk, and Robert H. Vonderheide where the audience had the opportunity to ask their most pressing questions, remarks by Dr. J. Larry Jameson, Executive Vice President, University of Pennsylvania for the Health System, Dean, Perelman School of Medicine and Ralph W. Muller, Chief Executive Officer, University of Pennsylvania Health System, followed by a celebratory reception.

Dr. Chi V. Dang, Abramson Cancer Center Director, set the tone for the evening by saying, the beauty of the Abramson Cancer Center is that you have the wisdom of entire teams rather than just of any particular person, and it's almost like a symphony playing a great piece of music, rather than just having one soloist standing there playing one piece. Innovative minds, forward-thinking administrators, and generous donors are all key to finding new and better ways to prevent, detect, and treat cancer.

Dr. Tara C. Gangadhar was presented with the Inaugural Young Friends of the Abramson Cancer Center Award by YF Co-Chair, Jennifer Stern. Young Friends supports the work of young investigators and clinicians whose brilliant ideas often go unrealized because of difficulties in attracting traditional sources of funding. Members are dedicated to advocating and raising awareness of the importance of philanthropic support so that cancer ends with this generation!Visit here for more information about how to get involved with the Young Friends of the Abramson Cancer Center or contact or 215.573.2480.
